- What is PROMISLingua?
PROMISLingua is a co-founded European project aiming at the translation, localisation and implementation of the existing PROMIS® online service (at the moment available in English, German and Italian) in additional six languages and markets (Spanish, French, Portuguese, Greek, Romanian, Hungarian). The project aims at shortening the time-to-market of PROMIS® and delivering a cost-efficient and easy-to-use Internet based service for Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHE-Q) management via multilingual translation and innovative support services to SMEs.
- What is PROMIS?
PROMIS is a Web portal offering services and products to support you and your organsation address issues of quality, environmental and health & safety performance.
- Is content found on the Internet considered to be in the public domain and therefore not copyright-protected?
No. The legal concept of the public domain as it applies to copyright law should not be confused with the fact that a work may be publicly available, such as information found in books or periodicals, or on the Internet. The public domain comprises all those works that are either no longer protected by copyright or never were. Any content in a non-digital form that is protected by copyright will be protected in a digital form. For example, print books are protected by copyright as are electronic books. Analog musical recordings are protected by copyright as are digital musical recordings. A print letter is protected by copyright as is an E-mail letter (both generally owned by the author of that letter or E-mail). Web sites may be protected by copyright as a single work, and also the many different embedded works that are in that Web site may be individually protected by copyright.
- How is the content in the online service translated?
In PROMIS®, the idea is that rather static content (like legal regulations) which must be high-quality translation; it is translated and then post-edited. This content will have to be stored. Occasional content (like results of a search query) is less long-living, and would not be post-edited but just displayed as information translation. What happens with the content (and the translation) is decided by the calling component. The translator web service itself gets a request with a piece of text, and returns this text in another language. The calling component decides what to do.
- How can I satisfy my customers' requirements using PROMIS?
Today, product quality and price are not the only considerations made by customers when selecting suppliers and contractors. 'Invisible' quality factors such as a strong environmental commitment and impressive health & safety track record are increasingly requested. Individually aAddressing these management issues can be time-consuming, over-bureaucratic and expensive. PROMIS will help integrate your management of environmental, health & safety, quality and other business systems. This will, amongst other things, improve the efficiency of your organisation's processes, streamline external communication of your management commitments and ensure your are satisfying your customer's needs.
